Fairy-topia

A design on one of my daughter's nightgowns inspired this drawing. I have had the idea for a few weeks. Yesterday and today I took the time to sketch it out. Once I finished, I realized that her hair should be up (like the other fairy images I looked at), because have long loose hair makes for bad wing movement! :P

Anyway, let me know what you think!

Update: The wonderful Kathy Hare has enlightened me to qualities of fairy hair, and let me know my drawing was fine the way it is. Thanks, Kathy! I do, now, remember looking at a few figurines whose hair was down.

Ahh! I never would have thought of the hair issue!

This is really nice, Tom. I like the scale and proportion. :-)

Thanks, Jennifer. Yea, one of those small details you miss until after your done! Oh well, good practice for long hair! :)

Tom,
fairy hair is completely different to human hair it is like gossamer thread, it just floats around their wings, your drawing is perfectly accurate...

Thanks for the tip, Kathy. Granted, I didn't do much research on Fairies before I did my sketch. But now that you mention it, I do remember looking at a few figurines on which the hair was down! :P

This is a charming fairy, a great success. The hair down is perfect -just imagine light & fine hair and quite strong wings. Would love to see it in colour too (colour is something I always struggle with.)

This is really sweet. It is touching how she is leaning down to pick up the ladybug. Would love to see this in color as well.

How lovely to be inspired by the things around you! I love her expression and long hair doesn't get in the way of arms (usually!) so wing movement should be fine.

lovely little fairy Tom!
I also like the whole scene.
Ask your daughter about the hair, she surely will say it's perfect, girls looooove long hair :)

I think the hair down is great, because when she flies through the air, her hair would be blowing in the wind and it would look really good! I'm just saying, from a girl's point of view. :-)

She's lovely! Its great to hear you get inspiration from many places!

Lovely, lovely fairy! And yep, love the long flowing hair. Hey, besides, it's your fairy, she can have any kind of hair you want her to have... gossamer, pixie dust hair, dandelion fluff hair, you name it, hee hee.
