Days 14/15 of 21

Not counting Mother's Day in this challenge since it was a holiday, and I was, of course, busy visiting the mom's and grandmas!

Been drawing but deadlines with the magazine I am working on keep me from posting every day. Monday, mostly did rough pose sketches for practice; nothing worth posting.

Tuesday, I did the three shown above. The first is my version of Deadeye Blacktooth, a pirate from an exercise in one of the cartooning books I picked up from the library. The second is my cartoon version of me, and the last I did just before I finished up today's work.

A few of you have asked to see color versions of some of my stuff, so at the end of these 21 days, I am going to challenge myself to color many of the sketches I have done using various mediums.

These are great! I like the middle one of you the best. I also like that you seem to be jumpng in with both feet and trying challengin poses such as this guy who thinks he is Michael Jordan and the guy in a previous post who looks like he just got rejected. You must be learning a lot! Can't wait til the end to see some in color!

You made me laugh today! First the comment on my blog and just now when I saw these great drawings! I wish my legs were that skinny! ;)

Kate: Yes, I have learned quite a bit—by looking at others' work, drawing (almost) everyday in this challenge, and through a few books.

My biggest hurdle is slowing down enough to visualize the whole drawing on the paper so I keep the proportions correct and making sure everything bends and moves as it would in real life (I had the basketball boy's arms bending the other way when I first sketched it! :P)

Jess: Glad you got a kick out of it, too!

Hi Tom
thanks for the info you left on my blog about posting for IF. It is very helpful. The pirate looks really good.

Tom! You are getting looser and looser.. :o)
I like best the one of yourself!. hee, hee so cute. Love your print shirt, very florida ;o)

My hubby has lots of Guayaberas (that's how we call them) like that with flower prints. I like them.

I really think your sketches are developing so well Tom. They look more natural each time and the proportions are great too. Awesome work my friend :o)

Thanks, Carli. Glad that worked.

Alicia: Unless it is cold, that is about all I wear! Very comfortable!
I was actually surprised at how much that drawing looked like me when I got done. My wife and son agreed!

I love the determination on the basketball player. That one is my favorite. Thanks for sharing.

You are great at creating new characters, and using lots of movement when creating your drawings. That's impressive! The basketball player is great, not only his expression, but the placement of his legs in the air. It will be great to see some of these in color at the end!
