Well I did draw a bit yesterday, but didn't have a chance to upload anything. Drew some more faces today, and here are the best. Need a lot of practice with hair (as you can see from the bouffant hair girl at the bottom!). Another challenge is to get the eye style I like to portray emotion without always looking surprised (wide open), or depressed or sad (when an eye lid is present.)

Nice variety of characters, Tom, with very different personalities. I like the first girl and the one with the flying hair the best!

I really like the guy in the middle of the page. His expression and hair are great. I like the girl with the flowing hair too. She has eyes like the middle guy but she doesn't look sad or droopy. So what you say about that kind of eyes, I think really depends on small variation of angles in the lines on the eyes and also if you add other features on the face of course. I like the eyes of feed me guy too.

Yeah I struggle with eyes as well. I like the girl on the upper right....her personality is coming through her expression.

Keep drawing , Tom, I too have the same goal to become a better artist. Isn't this exercise is fun, it drive you to practice make perfect!

Holy cow, I can't keep up, you are kicking butt over here. These sketches (and all in your previous posts) are lookin' good.
I found it amazing when I started my sketch a day sitch. It seemed like I was improving amost by osmosis. I couldn't figure out what it was that was making my stuff improve. Something magical happens. I think all the things you've observed in real life and the techniques you've seen others do kind of seep in there and synthesizes and just comes spewing out if you keep the sketching nozzle open.
Umm, what the heck did I just say? I'm gonna take a nap now.
Great variety Tom, and I think your doing a good job of depicting hair. I have a book to recommend to you for drawing/cartooning. It's "Cartooning The Head & Figure" by Jack Hamm. I got a used copy of it at alibris.com. It's an excellent resource. It has pages devoted to eyes, noses, hair, etc. Jack Hamm was a cartoonist back in the 1960's and 70's.

LOL I find the eyes in this so expressive! You used their eyelids really effectively! My favorite hairstyle is on the girl on the bottom!
