IF: climbing; call for help...
I started this as an IF: Climbing illustration, but I really want to get a portfolio going. I really like this and have worked hard to get it to this point, and would like to make this my first official portfolio illustration. So rather than rush thru to get this done by the deadline, I would love to hear any and all comments, suggestions, etc, etc for making this better.
I'll say first that the giants hands still look odd to me, and I am trying to figure a way to put Jack's other arm so it doesn't look like he is waving at the giant (he is supposed to be scared/startled).
So without further ado, critique away! Thanks!!

wow, cool image Tom, great perspective, you've pulled it off well. Jack's arm doesn't bother me too much, I think by his expression you get the scared/startled thing, it doesn't look like he's waving.
For me, it's the giant's left hand/arm that is a problem. It looks like the giant is pulling back the top of the table, instead of using it to balance himself. Maybe if you had that arm resting on his knee with the knee bent a bit more, (because it would be a looong way down for him) that might help?
Love the fireplace in the background, and the angles of the table are really cool. well done! I'll be sure to check back in to see your progress...
I have to agree with lil kim. The position of Jacks's arm works. I think his expression shows his arm is in a defensive pose. It does look like the giant is peeling back the table. As for the giant's hands, the way I see it, his right hand is backwards. That is, the thumb appears to be on the wrong side.
Still, it's a very nicely done illo.
Good Luck!
It looks good so far Tom. I think Jack's arm is fine. the giant right thumb is on the wrong side and I would take his left arm off the table. the perspective looks great. and your expressions are great too. I think it is going to be perfect for your portfolio
wonderful perspective Tom, I also think Jack's arm is fine, a great illustration..
Great illustration, Tom. The perspective is quite impressive, and very effective. I agree with all the comments, Jack is fine, he does not seem to be waving at all, but looks startled and frightened. The problem is only with the Giant's hands. I think it will be a great portfolio piece!
Thanks for the comments and suggestions! Hope to have it colored this week!
WOW! TOM, This is really great! Talk about perspective and energy and contrast in size. You have all the right elements for a great illustration! I can't see the hen too well and can't read its expression. Aside from what everyone else said, I would just develop the hen a little more. Great job!!!
Thanks, Edrian!
The modifications are coming along well.
Hope to have something to show by the end of the week!
Hope I'm not late to the critique party.. I think your perspective is good, but something may be wrong with the angle of the giant's foot that's throwing it off. and yeah, rework the hands... but other than that, it's a very nice sketch!
Thanks, Dot.
Yeah, I am going to move his leg and foot out to the right a bit to help "support" his weight more, and make the placement of his hand more believable.
