Old St. Nick

Not real busy today, so I took some time to draw some Santas. Three different versions for your enjoyment!

I hope to clean up and paint them (and get Santa to put on a bit more weight!), but we'll see how time goes with the holidays approaching.

Oh I really like the last one Tom! I can't wait to see that one in color. :o)

I think it would make a great portfolio piece. It is telling a story and the composition is very interesting. Can I make a suggestion? (oh boy.. here I go with my suggestions.. I'm afraid one day you'll band me from your blog :o)) ..

I think the kids look a bit stiff. The girl is right on pointing like that and her facial expression is great. Perhaps you can make the little brother having another type of reaction. Maybe hiding behind her or the wall, or maybe with his hands on his head or jumping up a bit.

I tell you this because i really think this could make a wonderful piece for your portfolio my friend :o)

Great Santas! The last one is my favorite also! I love the storytelling, Santa's body language and the perspective. Can't wait to see it colored!

Alicia: No worries with the suggestions! That is why I started this blog — to solicit critiques and comments in an effort to improve my drawings.

The stiffness I am still working on. That is my biggest challenge, to get the people to look more animated.

Thanks Diana and Linda!

Hey Tom. I know it is hard. We all have a harder time making characters not look stiff.

If this helps, I try to imagine I'm taking a picture of the moment. As if characters are striking a pose and everything is still, frozen. That helps me get the pose easier if you know what I mean.

Can;t wait to see it all done and in color my friend :o)
