IF: Pet Peeve(d)

Fed up with tasteless tin can goop, Fido refused to eat one more morsel.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As usual I am going with the first thing that came to mind. I had a more elaborate idea, but getting this dog to this point took so much time, this is all I was able to get. The hardest part was his legs. I mean, holy cow! I must have drawn and erased 20 times just on the legs. While I still think there is improvement to be made, this looks a lot better than my first iterations! Colored in Photoshop.

IF: Heavy

I was at a loss for an idea for this week's IF theme of "heavy." I had given up when today inspiration hit. The winds have been quite strong here this week, and while staring out my office window, the above idea struck me. This first thing that came to me was the kid flying thru the air, and the rest just fell into place after. I am quite pleased with this, though I am unhappy with the girls arm across her head. But, if you look at many illustrated children, they can't reach around their head anyway, so this was the best I could do at the moment!! :) I could have done more to the sketch, but my day job beckons! Like the "Garden" sketch, I plan to rework and finish this. Any suggestions you see fit will be appreciated.

IF: Garden

Here is my initial sketch for the IF theme "garden." This is based off a small thumbnail I made last Friday. Please offer any suggestions, critiques, etc, as any information that will allow me to improve my skills is greatly appreciated. I hope to work this into a finished piece.

Treed Frog

You may recall in one of my previous posts my mentioning how I sometimes have "visions" of drawings just before I go to sleep or just after I wake up. As I attempted to squeeze out a few more minutes of sleep this morning, the image above came to me. Not sure, but may be due to my watching "Miss Potter" last night (good movie BTW). Those of you who have seen it will know what I mean. The light image at the bottom is a rough sketch of a dog. The dog in my head was smiling, but the size of the drawing didn't afford me much room for detail on him.

IF: Leap

In my efforts to draw more last week I took two stabs at the IF theme. I had more more idea, but as I am still working on people, I decided to stop early on that one.
Anywhoo... here are my two versions:

This was the first idea that came to me. Kids leaping from puddle to puddle in the rain. This one was quite hard in getting the face to look right, as I wanted her looking down. Overall it seems a bit stiff to me, but I am happy none the less.

Now everyone knows that when elephants aren't slinging mud, they like to "leap" through a field of flowers. With this, it was a toss up between and elephant and a hippo. This was the result of much sketching over and over on the same drawing until I liked it. Then I outlined it with a Micron pen and erased the pencil. I think it came out decent.

I welcome your comments and critiques on these. Another update next week, though I think the "fast" is officially over! :)

"Electron Fast" Week 1

Well, I will honestly say that trying to stay of the Web for a week is all but difficult. And no TV... pfffffffttt. Forget it! In my efforts, I managed to pick up three new shows to watch—Here Come the Newlyweds, Oprah's Big Give, and a show I think is called Dragster High (where two groups of high school kids compete in building and racing (with professional drivers) a custom drag racing car.)
Anyway, I did do a lot more drawing last week... some from memory, some from photos, and two versions of the IF theme for this week (see above). So I am proud of myself even if my "electron" consumption wasn't reduced by much.
